In Arabic, "Sijjin" (سِجِّين) refers to a prison, a book of records, or a place of torment at the bottom of Hell. It can also be understood as a "record" of bad deeds, highlighting the inescapable nature of one's actions. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Prison/Place of Torment: Sijjin is often associated with the bottom layer of Hell, a place of torment for disbelievers and the souls of those who have done wrong. Book of Records: It can also refer to a record of bad deeds, a register where the names of the damned are listed, emphasizing the finality and inescapability of these records. Inescapable Nature: The term "sijjin" is believed to be derived from the word "sijn," which means "prison". This connection highlights the idea that once deeds are recorded, they are indelibly set down and cannot be changed. Quranic References: The word "sijjin" appears in the Quran, specifically in Surah 83:7-9, where it's associated with the book of records for the disbelievers. Antithesis of Illiyin: Sijjin is the opposite of Illiyin, which refers to a place in the seventh heaven where good deeds are recorded. كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍۢ ٧ 7. Mayee, hubaal diiwaanka (camalka) dadka xun wuxuu yaal Sijjiin. But no! The wicked are certainly bound for Sijjîn1 ˹in the depths of Hell˺— وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌۭ ٨ 8. Maxaa ku ogeysiiyey waxa uu Sijiin yahay? and what will make you realize what Sijjîn is?— كِتَـٰبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ ٩ 9. Waa (aayahooda) kitaab (ku) calaameysan a fate ˹already˺ sealed.

Surah Al-A'raf Verse 116 :

قَالَ أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَلْقَوْا۟ سَحَرُوٓا۟ أَعْيُنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ وَجَآءُو بِسِحْرٍ عَظِيمٍۢ ١١٦ (Muuse) wuxuu yiri: Tuurta.
